“Conway’s Corners/Lake Conway is near the intersection of Highland Lakes Road, near the Old “Perch” restaurant, which used to be Conway’s store. The Conway family gave its name to Lake Conway nearby, which was started as a real estate development in 1964. (it was formerly the Conway Dairy Farm).” *

Lake Conway
SETTLED 1925 - ESTABLISHED 1964
The Conway family’s ownership dates back to 1925. Charles and Agnes Conway sold the property to his son Dick and wife Estelle in 1948. Originally, the Conway family used the land as a dairy farm. The Conway family lived in the farm house which is located at 399 Rt. 515 and Alsike Lane. The realty development began in 1964.
In 1980 Dick and Estelle conveyed the lake and its property for $1.00 to the Lake Conway Community to use exclusively for swimming, fishing, boating, ice skating, and activities designed for the enjoyment of the community residents. Lois Scordato, a daughter of Dick Conway and a local school teacher continued to live in the Lake community with her husband, Vince. They remained an integral part of Lake Conway until her passing.
The Lake Conway Community Association was incorporated in 1980. Its constitution, bylaws and the chain of title designate that all residents residing in Lake Conway must become part of the association and are required to pay dues in order to properly maintain the lake and its property. This is further supported by PREDFDA “Planned Real Estate Development Full Disclosure Act.”
The lake itself was designed and developed by the Army Corp. of Engineers around 1958 as a spillway to prevent flooding from the top of the mountain. A dam (which is actually the road at the end of the lake on Mountain road) was part of the construction to help maintain the flow of the water into its streams, tributaries, and finally into the Wallkill river.
Lake Conway has always been listed as a highly desirable A-1 residential community. Its convenient to shopping, services, schools, entertainment activities and a short distance from the center of town. It’s only six miles from Rt. 23 which makes it an easy commute to work even as far as New York City. Lake Conway provides many activities for residents of all ages and particularly for families in the community through each season of the year.
